Mens Hairstyles: 3 Hairstyles for this Winter

Tuesday, December 6, 2011

Trends for men’s hairstyle this winter are above average cuts short, both of the sides and back of the head short while longer on the top. However, just because a certain hairstyle is in trend, it does not mean you can get it without considering whether or not it fit your face shape. The biggest mistake you should avoid  is to follow blindly the hair trend that does not go with the shape of your face.

Close on the sides

This style is cut close on the sides and back all the way up to the point where the head starts to round at the top. If you have an oval face shape, you are lucky as we normally classified this face shape as ‘perfect’ face shape. This versatile face shape allows you to wear almost any hairstyle you desire. Consider this haircut this winter that is stylish and yet low maintenance.

Slick back hairstyle

When you think of slick back hair trends, actors like George Clooney and Leonardo Di Caprio comes into mind. The former plays a large part in influencing this trend and the latter always grace the red carpet with it. But this year, the only thing that is going to be slick back is the fringe with lighter hues running through a glossy mop of hair. However it is best advised if you only do this hairstyle in a dry weather. If it snows frequently, this hairstyle is not advisable as the snow will dampen your hair and it will hang down instead of stay up. This hairstyle goes well with a square and oval face as slicking your hair back will help make your face seem a little longer and it will emphasize on the square jaw that most men envy.

Disheveled hairstyles

Sometimes we also called Messy hairstyle, covering your forehead with hair will make your face seem wider. If you have wider cheekbones than the forehead or chin, this kind of hairstyle will compliment the shape of your face. Disheveled hairstyles will fill out your face at the forehead and chin while being close to your head at its widest point. However, avoid over-styling your hair when you want to achieve the tousled look as it might end up looking unnatural.

Finding the right hairstyle is hard but not impossible. Understanding the shape of your face simplifies the search for the perfect hairstyle. Be adventurous and do not hesitate in trying out new hairstyles to find which fits you best.

Mens Fashion Hairstyles Trends in 2012

Monday, October 24, 2011

Looking to revamp your hairstyle but can’t make up your mind? We present to you a compilation of the hottest hairstyle trends showing on Spring/Summer 2012 runways.

Take your pick from the masculine fringe at Burberry Prorsum to the classic part shown at Dries Van Noten .

1. Side Swept Fringe Hairstyle

Keeping it short at the back and sides, the side swept fringe, also called swept bangs can be played up accordingly as you like. To truly rock this style, you will need to find the perfect length for your face shape, be it at brow length or just around the temple. But, the trend for 2012 is gravitating towards a more textured, layered cut. For some great examples, look no further than Burberry Prorsum 2012 menswear show where the fringe style truly shined.

Quick Tip: Suitable for those with diamond face shape.

2. Wet Fringe Textured HairstyleSlick your side swept fringe forward using a matte wax or pomade and you would have achieved this next look as seen in the Jil Sander show. This wetter than wet hairstyle is not for everyone but if you’re up for it, you can recreate this hairstyle by pulling in hair from the temples and crowning it towards the forehead.

3. Messy Hairstyle

2012 will be another year for messy hair style. If your hair is of a wavy quality, the messy fringe is definitely for you. Just run some hair products over your hair, tossle it up and BAM!, instant sex appeal.

Quick Tip: Suitable for diamond or square face shape.

4. Classic Part

Exuding old Hollywood glamour, the classic part has always been associated with the greats such as the likes of Frank Sinatra and Cary Grant. It has become the ultimate trend setter for 2012 with a modern twist of course now that men are in pursuit of sartorial elegance.

5. Chic Bangs Hairstyle

At the Lanvin menswear collection, we see the comeback of a childhood staple-the bowl cut. In tune with a collection that shouts war and military, Lanvin’s creative director Alber Elbaz has opt for bluntly chopped Medieval-esque bangs.

6. The Slick Back

The slick back goes hand in hand with George Clooney. This Adonis of a man has single-handedly catapulted this hairstyle into one that has dominated runways for the longest time. In fact, fashion has had a standing affair with the slick back and that is not about to change, as evident in the 2012 shows from Louis Vuitton to Ermenegildo Zegna.

7. The Crew Hair Cut

Think crew cut and G.I Joe comes to mind. Sometime we also called this as butch cut or buzz cut. The notorious “tough guy” haircut can be suave too as demonstrated by Calvin Klein in the Spring/Summer 2012 collection.

Quick Tip: Suitable for oval or round face shape.

2010 Men Hairstyle Trends

Saturday, April 10, 2010

Well, everyone are wondering what will be mens hairstyle trends in 2010? In our own opinion, here are just a few of men hairstyle trends in 2010.

Short Man’s Hairstyles

High and Tight, Fade, Spike, Clipper Cut and Crew Cut, whatever name you want to call it. We reckoned that by far the most popular man’s hairstyle in 2010 is the High and Tight or Fade.

Characterized by a closely cropped clipper cut around the sides and back of the head with just enough hair on top of the head to comb, this man’s hairstyle with its many variations accounts for about 50% of all popular styles today. With just a little bit of gel to spike up the top, mess it up a little or finger into place, this man’s hairstyle will only take you seconds to achieve.

While you may have to get it cut more often, about every three weeks or so, the ease of styling this man hair cut is what makes it a favorite among busy men today.

Medium length, textured Men’s Hairstyle

2010 hairstyle trends for men have a lot of texture and the same is true for medium-length styles (about 3 to 4 inches). These styles resemble the classic man haircut of the past, but step it up a notch by using extreme texture and color to bring it all together.

Most styles use a great deal of razoring and texturizing with notching scissors. To style this man’s hairstyle pomade usually works best. Work product through dry hair and finger into place.

Long Men’s Hairstyles

While most men do not wear their hair down their back anymore, the long man’s hair style has made a somewhat shorter comeback. Perhaps the most recognizable example that we can related to this men’s hair style is Ashton Kutcher. Long, textured and disheveled, this man hair cut is gaining widespread popularity. Again, this man’s hair cut requires a lot of texture and works best with pomade.

As you can see, the man’s hair style in 2010 is far from boring. Gone are the days of cookie-cutter barber shop man haircut. :)

6 Tips on Get Your Dream Haircut

Monday, March 16, 2009

To look and feel your best, a good haircut is essential. The correct haircut can bring you self-confidence and satisfaction. A proper haircut can flatter the face, bring focus to the eyes, and minimize flaws. Most importantly, a haircut is a reflection of one’s personality. And as such, the better the cut, the more confident you feel. Here are 7 tips on how to get the haircut you want and deserve:

Tip 1. Do I Need a Matchmaking Service? Finding a good stylist can be likehairstyle1.jpg searching for your next girlfriend. Ask around and find out which stylist or salon your friends use, or you can ask someone whose hair you admire. Perhaps you have seen a salon around town that looks cool and you’ve been wanting to give it a try. In this case I would call them up and ask if they specialize in a certain types of haircuts or styles. Would they consider themselves to be modern or classic in their attitude toward style? Edgy or conservative?

Tip2. Do Not Ignore Others Suggestions. Remember that you want to look great for others, so try to ask your friends for suggestions of hairstyles that they think looks good on you. But your friends are secondary only, to achieve the best hairstyle ask the experts a.k.a. your hairstylist. They know the best for you. If you dont like it, don’t worry, hair always grow back! Mens hairstyles Tip 3. Don’t Be Shy. You might want to call or drop in a salon and ask if the stylists will give a free consultation before you make an appointment. Find out what their style is and the kind of cuts they are particularly good at cutting. Maybe they are better at certain types of styles than others or maybe they typically do women’s hair. It’s good to find these things out before they start whacking at your hair.

Tip4. Find a barber who cuts your style well. Looking for a good barber? Here’s thehairstyle2.jpg easiest way to find one. Ask. If you see a guy with a great haircut - one that’s similar to the style you’re looking for - ask him where he got it cut. Just walk right up and say, “Hey man. Cool haircut. I’ve been looking for a new barber, who cuts yours.” Yeah, it might be a bit awkward, but you might just find a great barber in the process. Oh… and regardless of what you might think, the guy will consider it a compliment that you asked.

Tip 5. Communicate Well and Be Good to your hairstylist. A proper communication and a good relation between you and your hairstylist is very helpful to achieve optimum result. When you describe the desired length of your hair, use your hands instead of describing in inches, it’s a lot easier to understand by your stylist. As much as possible bring pictures of the desired hairstyle that you’ve seen in magazines or Internet. Pictures are truly worth a thousand words, so dont be shy to bring a piece.

Mens Hairstyles

Tip 6. Take a picture. I’m not sure why so many men have such a problem with this one, but it you’re looking for a new style and you find one you like in a magazine or photograph (or this website), print out a copy and take it with you to the barber. This will help the barber understand exactly what you’re after without having to explain it (something we guys are notoriously bad a doing). Just be realistic. If you look like Bill Clinton, a barber can’t make you look like Brad Pitt or if your hair has the texture of a pot scrubber, he won’t be able to make it silky smooth. The photo will, however, give your barber an idea of what you want so he can create a similar style that works well with your hair and face. Oh, and no he won’t think your a girlie man for taking a photo - he’ll appreciate the effort. I always do.

Tip 7. Money Money Money Tip appropriately or you may not want your stylist to have a pair scissors near your face the next time you drop in. A Proper tip is 15% to 20% for your stylist & $5 for the person who washes your hair, if someone other than your stylist is doing so.

Man Fashion: 2009 Men Hairstyle Trends

Wednesday, November 5, 2008

While everyone is questioning what will be the next men hairstyle trends in 2009, others are stick to their favorite hairstyle back in 2007. When I was discussed with my hairstylist the other day on this topic, interestingly, we both thought of Emo look.

When the first time I heard about this term "Emo Hairstyle" was back to 2005 while I was traveled in Europe. Now, this Emo hairstyle trends become the fast track to popularity among the younger crowd, from US to Europe and across Asia.

A tangent from the gothic or punk sub–culture, the emo hairstyle transcends the realm of styling your hair simply to look good and becomes an expressive form. The emo hairstyle allows the expression of individuality and creativeness. The basic emo hairstyle can be found as a short look or as a long look with similarities between the two.

Short Emo Hairstyle

Man short emo haircut involves a short and spiky cut with very long bangs. With this style, the bangs are worn in a long fringe that lies over the face, but brushed to one side. The bangs essentially cover one eye, completely or almost completely. This fringe of bangs presents a canvas that can be used to express individuality with highlights and streaks.

Long Emo Hairstyle

Man long emo haircut involves a long and shaggy cut. With this style, the bangs are worn in a long fringe and brushed to one side of the face in the same manner as with the short emo haircut. The long bangs are parted to one side of the face with the right side being the more popular one to flip the bangs to fall upon.

Emo Hairstyle Highlights
To add on more creativity and style, men with emo hairstyles also add on highlights, or streaks. In fact, coloring the bangs in a spectrum of shades that range from light to dark or vice-versa is a real eye catcher. According to well known hairstylist "Most popular colors for highlights currently tend to be red or purple."

So whether you like it or not, emo hairstyles will most likely still be one of the most popular men hairstyle trends in 2009.

Men Hairstyles: Haircare Tips

Sunday, December 30, 2007

As hair loss issues become one of the most concerns of men, regardless of their ages. It is important for us to stress on hair care further (There was a earlier post on hair care tips, to find out earlier post, click here: man health: how to take care of your hair). Most of us are overwhelming by many ads for shampoos and styling products you see on television that claim to promote "healthy hair!" Let's get real, people!

There is no such thing as "healthy hair." Hair is basically made up of protein and keratin. The hair itself has no blood supply and no nervous system. Hair is not alive, so it cannot be "healthy" Because hair is not a living structure, it cannot repair itself and must be maintained properly to preserve strength, elasticity, and shine. Some shampoos and conditioners claim to "repair the damage" to your hair. They simply cannot. Once hair is damaged, the only way to "repair" it is to cut off the damaged length. The following are a few tips to keep your hair looking great... looking "healthy!"

Dry Your Hair

Towel Drying is one of the leading causes of damage to men's hair. Guys love to take a towel and rub that hair like crazy. The problem here is that when hair is wet, it is also very easily damaged. When "rubbing" the hair with a towel, some of the hairs become tangled in the threads of the towel and are stretched to the breaking point, causing damage to the cuticle and split ends. To minimize damage from towel drying, shake out the excess water and then stroke your hair with the towel in the direction it grows. This may take a bit longer but it's worth it.

Blow Drying is also a leading cause of hair damage. It can dry out the hair and scalp. We strongly recommend not to use blow dryer, but if you must blow, then you might want to follow these tips.

  1. To prevent damage from blow drying, apply a thermal styling spray to the hair. This will make it easier to comb and protect against heat damage.
  2. Make sure to hold the dryer 6-10 inches away from the hair and move it briskly from side to side. This will keep the hair from becoming damaged by heat.
  3. Avoid drying the hair completely. Leaving the hair slightly damp will prevent drying out the hair.

Easy On That Comb, Pal, when hair is wet, prevent damage by using a wide-tooth comb or brush. This will limit damage caused by the comb or brush pulling on the hair.

Wash in very hot water can dry out the hair and scalp. Take it easy on the heat.

Watch the Pool Water.Pool water contains chemicals that can dry, damage, and discolor hair. To minimize damage from chlorine and other chemicals, always wet the hair with tap water before entering the pool and wash with tap water after swim. This will help prevent your hair from absorbing water from the pool and wash away the chlorine or other chemicals after swim.

Avoid Chemical Abuse. Repeatedly coloring or perming hair can wreak havoc. Chemicals used to process hair can be very harsh to your hair and scalp.

Don't over wash. Feel free to shampoo daily, but extensive shampoo in a day could cause damage to your hair. Professional shampoos are designed to deposit softening agents, moisturizers and protect agents into the hair shaft. But, when you shampoo, concentrate on cleansing the scalp. The hair will be sufficiently cleansed by rinsing the shampoo out of the hair.

Balance diet. Eating well, drinking plenty of water, taking vitamins, getting plenty of sleep, and living a stress free lifestyle will promote faster growth of the hair. The hair is often a reflection of the entire body. A body that is healthy and well maintained will likely have hair that is strong, shiny, and "healthy looking."

Control Frizz. Frizzy hair is caused by a low amount of moisture and protein. To control frizz, use a good moisturizing conditioner. You can also apply a "smoothing" serum such to add shine and manageability.

So remember, all these tips are not one time event, but are continuous effort.
