Tuesday, September 30, 2008

Men Lifestyle: Aston Martin DBS

Sunday, September 28, 2008

Before its release, the DBS had a cameo in James Bond flick Casino Royale to tease Aston martin fans with the shape of things to come. Priced at a hefty US$260,000, this piece of British heritage is set for progress, eliminating previous design, production and financial fetters.

Expressive and explosive, the DBS will herald the new Aston Martin era. The ultimate embodiment of the DB9 coupe, the DBS replaces the muscular Vanquish as the all-new flagship with just 300 cars to be produced each year at its factory in Gaydon, UK. Quicker than any Aston road car before it, thanks to it well massaged V12 engine, it also weighs about 100kg less than the regular DB9.

Raw power aside, the DBS is dressier than its predecessors. From bonnet to boot, it displays flowing curves, subtle sills and complex surfaces that elicit instant double takes. Grand, luxurious and marked by smooth and effortless maneuvers, the front end's yawning air scoop and the rear's carbon fibre diffuser and twin exhausts certainly suggest extraordinary performance and superior airflow management.

Once inside, brace yourself for sensory overload. As a touch of extravagance, the dashboard knobs and accents are made from solid aluminum while the centre stack has been reconfigured for enhanced precision and functionality.

Man Fashion: How Many Ways to a Handkerchief

Friday, September 26, 2008

These days, most men incorporate squares and handkerchiefs into their suits for the simple reason that it’s elegant and adds interest to what otherwise might be an overly dark, plain look. Nevertheless, handkerchiefs get a bad rap as unsanitary when you want to blow your nose in them, even though this is what they were meant for and how they were used for centuries. When used as an accessory to a suit, a handkerchief is known as a pocket square. Wikipedia has list out several ways in which a pocket square can be folded :

  • The Presidential is folded at right angles to fit in the pocket.

  • The TV Fold is folded diagonally with the point inside the pocket.

  • The One-point Fold is folded diagonally with the point showing.

  • The Two-point Fold is folded off-center so the two points don’t completely overlap.

  • The Three-point Fold is first folded into a triangle, then the corners are folded up and across to make three points.

  • The Four-point Fold is an off-center version of the Three-point Fold.

  • The Cagney is basically a backwards version of the Four-point Fold.

  • The Puff or the Cooper is simply shaped into a round puff.

  • The Reverse Puff is like the Puff, except with the puff inside and the points out, like petals.

If you wear many good suits and like to look sharp, you may want to explore more variants in how to fold a handkerchief. For most of these, you can certainly teach yourself, but you might ask the advice of a salesman in a high-end men’s clothing store too. That way, you can be sure you’re performing the fold correctly.

  • The Astaire is a puff with a point on either side.

  • The Straight Shell is pleated and then folded over to give the appearance of nested shells.

  • The Diagonal Shell is pleated diagonally and then folded.

Man Fashion: Do You Know what Celebrities Have in Common for Fashion?

Sunday, September 21, 2008

What do Madonna, Britney Spears, Snoop Dogg and Sylvester Stallone all have in common? No, it’s not the newest romantic scandal in Hollywood - In recent years one line of clothing has been by worn by all these celebrities and many more. It’s not Gucci, Louis Vuitton or Burberry, it’s Ed Hardy clothing, the hottest new brand by French designer Christian Audigier. Most important, this brand actually give you the celebrity style as well as the price that you and I are affordable.

Ed Hardy clothing takes its name from the man who inspired the line, Don Ed Hardy. Hardy is considered one of the best tattoo artists in the world and in tattoo circles he is called “the godfather of modern tattoo”. His Japanese meets American style is highly original and highly sought after around the globe.

Christian Audigier, who had previously designed lines for brands such as Urban Outfitters, Diesel and Von Dutch, saw a great opportunity in Hardy’s work. He approached Hardy in 2004 with an idea for a clothing line based around his art and tattoo work. Hardy granted Audigier a license to use his work, and Ed Hardy clothing was born.

Ed Hardy clothing quickly became a sensation across the world, but nobody took to the new range more than Hollywood’s celebrity elite. Madonna wears Ed Hardy caps and t-shirts almost daily, and Britney Spears was recently filmed raiding the designer’s massive California warehouse.

Men Fashion Watch: Montblanc's Nicolas Rieussec Monopusher Chronograph

For those who still regards Montblanc as pen brand which happens to make watches, this stellar roll-out is going to make them eat their words. Just kidding.

With the Nicolas Rieussec Monopusher Chronograph, Montblanc now joins the ultra-elite club of watchmaking house who can lay claim to having their won in-house movement (the watch's innards that is conceived and produced entirely by the brand itself). Inspired by Nicolas Rieussec, a 19th century watchmaker who used to make watches for King Louis XIII, the elegantly appointed watch borrows its look from a pre-cursory chronograph mechanism that Rieussec himself created in 1821. On Montblanc's version, the watch is outfitted with the manual winding Calibre MB R100 that lets the users start, stop and reset the choronograph mechanism with just a single push button on the crown.

Man Fashion: Tommy Hilfiger's Spring 2009 Collection @ NYFW

Saturday, September 13, 2008

Another fashion designer from New York Fashion Week, Tommy Hilfiger rolled out his Spring 2009 Collection with some big guns, including stylist George Cortina and DJ Jeremy Healy.

The mood was patrician: navy blazer, preppy pastel slacks, silk tie, or a suit and trenchcoat in the same shade of gray. A pale blue jacket paired with narrow navy pants felt like the sort of thing Alain Delon might have worn.

Though the show notes mentioned "the explosive freedom of early eighties dressing," it actually felt a little sixties, Hollywood-style, like these were the sort of clothes an account exec.

White and black are still the my ultimate choice, navy pants with white designer shoe look gorgeous.

Man Fashion: Michael Bastian's Spring 2009 Men's Collection

Thursday, September 11, 2008

Once a year event, Spring 2009 Fashion Week just started few days ago. Michael Bastian has showed off his latest Spring 2009 Men's Collection. His first show provided an interesting opportunity to see the designer's own distillation of those multiple options.

Actually, it wasn't really a show, more a tight edit of 25 looks based around Bastian's latest American archetype. Focus on sporty short, bathing suits, and of course his signature freewheeling take on eveningwear, shawl-collared pink jacket, blue tux shirt, pale gray pinstriped pants.

Man Fashion: City Shorts Fashion Trends

Tuesday, September 9, 2008

While people in the U.S and Europe are looking for winter fashion, our counterpart in Australia and New Zealand will enjoy their sunny day in the coming session, and of course, summer and beach wear are the current fashion trends in this part of the world.

What particular fashion to noted this summar in Australia is "city short", or rather called Bermuda short.

It has been a long time since a man's knees were seen in the office but that may be about to change.

The "city short" is the hottest tip for this year's men's summer fashion.

The new-look city short has already been clocked on the men of London and New York this year.Singer turned fashion designer Justin Timberlake also showed men in city shorts at New York Fashion Week, in his work for fashion house William Rast. Other giant fashion designers such as Ralph Lauren has showed their City Shorts their 2008 Spring Collection

"Anybody over the age of 35 will remember men used to go to work with shorts and long white socks and the accessory to go with that was the pen to stick in the side of the sock," said Peter Holder, of ACP's Men's Lifestyle.

"It looks good but I don't know if it would be accepted by everyone in all offices," she said.

Have you got one for yourself in last summer, or intend to get one now?

Man Fashion Designer: Alexander McQueen Latest Fashion

Sunday, September 7, 2008

If you think of any fashion designer in Europe, the first that strike my mind is Alexander McQueen. With his countless provocative shows and outrageous designs, Alexander McQueen has created his style as the "Bad Boy" of fashion. The designer's potent mix of creativity, controversy and technical mastery has earned him three British Designer of the Year awards as well as a faithful celebrity followers such as David Bowie and Prodigy's Keith Flint.

Spring 2009 Collection

In 1996 he was named the role of chief designer at Givenchy. Feeling creatively stifled by the couture house, whose founder he dismissed as "irrelevant," McQueen left Givenchy in 2000 and has since joined the Gucci group.
