Men Skincare: 10 Effective Tips to Cure Acne

Tuesday, November 15, 2011

The skin is the largest organ on the body and unlike your wardrobe, you cannot change the skin you wear every day. One of the main functions of the skin is to eliminate some of the body’s waste products and when toxins escape into the skin, they can cause problems such as acne. Here we offer to you some tips for your fight against acne:

  1. As acne is basically a skin condition connected with the oil glands, you should try to keep your skin clean. By keeping your skin clean, it helps to reduce the bacteria count.

  2. Be careful not to over cleanse your face or it might result to your skin being too dry.

  3. Use plain soap and water to cleanse your skin no more than 3 times a day. If you have very oily skin, you may wash it more than several times a day.

  4. Avoid using moisturizers and creams on oily skin as they can give you a greasy feel and look. Use oil-free products instead.

  5. Vigorous scrubbing is not good for the skin. Avoid using anything rough when scrubbing at your skin if you have acne. It may worsen breakouts.

  6. Shave lightly over acne-affected areas and try not to nick the pimples. Avoid shaving when your skin is inflamed and applying acne medications instead of aftershave later can help control breakouts.

  7. Exfoliate your skin gently once or twice a week. Exfoliating you skin helps to get rid of dead cells and this can help bring healthy skin to the surface faster. However, be careful as over exfoliating can cause more acne breakouts.

  8. Do not over apply acne medications. Over usage can lead to side effects that will only worsen your skin condition.

  9. Seek the consultation of a dermatologist if unsure of the treatment products.

  10. Last but not least, consistency. Acne does not heal overnight so patience is very much needed.

Remember that by just cleansing your skin, you will not get rid of acne. A combination of eating wisely and the right treatment is the best way to combat this irritable problem.

Men Winter Grooming YES and NO

Thursday, November 10, 2011

There is a misconception among man - an idea that is so wrongly construed that it is actually one of the greatest fallacies, well at least to me. We are referring to the term “metrosexual”. When you say metrosexual, it sort of instigates the question of a person’s sexuality. That has in turn created a stigma that a man can’t be into a lifestyle where he takes good care of himself without being coined a metrosexual. So, let us make it straight once and for all men, grooming is something that you owe to your body. So here’s some basic do’s and dont’s of grooming, especially when winter comes around.

The DO’s

1. Do moisturize

With winter comes dry skin, so it’s important to quench your skin’s thirst with a good moisturizer. An important tip though when you choose your moisturizer is to steer clear of the ones with alcohol as alcohol strip skin’s natural oils.

2. Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen

You might think, it’s the winter season. What are the chances of me being exposed to sunrays? On the contrary, winter sun is even more concentrated once they reflect off white snow. So slap on a layer of sunscreen with full spectrum UVA/UVB protection before you leave the house.

3. Do drink lots of water

Did you know that we tend to not feel thirst in cold weather hence the body doesn’t send out an urge for you to drink water? Your skin might feel the effects of this, even more so during winter when it’s dry. But, fact is it can be fatal when you’ve reached the point of dehydration.

4. Do wear a hat

By that, we mean do provide some sort of warmth for your head region. It is a little known fact that the head is a primary point of heat loss. Whether it is a hooded jacket or your pick of winter headgear, make sure that your head is well-protected from the harsh elements.

5. Do hit the gym

With the holiday season upon us, it is the time of the year for family gatherings, delectable feasts, and just basically fond memories in front of a roaring fire. A gym is the last thing on anyone’s mind. But that is where you are wrong. Exercising facilitates blood circulation and keeps that glow in your face when everyone else’s is literally looking grey from the cold.

The DONT'S

1. Don’t overdo alcohol

Alcohol is one of the many methods used to keep warm during those bitterly cold days. But does it really have that effect? According to the Swiss Institute for the Prevention of Alcohol and Drug Problems, the answer is a big fat no. So, try not to take the term “drink and be merry” too literally.

2. Don’t overeat

We know it is hard to resist that sumptuous Christmas meal spread in front of you. And with all the office parties and New Years gatherings, you’ll be eating your way through the winter season. Let’s try to keep the fatty food and sinful desserts at a bare minimum shall we. Maybe when you find out that these foods have a detrimental effect on your skin it would be easier to say no.

3. Don’t lick lips

Next time when you’re out on the street during cold weather, try to fight the instinct of licking your chapped lips. Instead, always carry around a lip balm and whip it out whenever necessary. Pay no heed to those buddies who are giving you hell for using a “women’s product”.

4. Don’t go caveman

Yes, the tousled up, out of bed, devil may care hairdo is dominating the runways. But don’t, never overboard and throw your shaving routine out the window even if the facial hair helps in keeping your face warm in winter draft. We don’t want to end up looking like Chewbacca from Star Wars do we?

5. Don’t take hot baths/showers

When you are stuck outdoors during frigid weather, does the thought of a steaming, hot shower entice you? Fact is, the steam from a hot shower causes more damage to the skin than good. It enlarges the pores and thus allowing locked moisture inside the skin to escape. Opt for lukewarm water instead to lessen the aggravation on dry skin during winter.

Men Skin Care Tips for Fall

Sunday, October 2, 2011

With new products launch everyday, it is no doubt that you can easy to get confused about what products suit you best. We from Man Fashion have think these men skin care tips that can serve you well, let try out these for one month to see the results.

Exfoliate

Exfoliation is scrubbing off the top layer of dead cells from your skin to reveal a healthy-looking glow. Men have bigger pores and hairier skin than women, meaning they collect more dirt, so it's important to exfoliate your back, chest and face regularly with products made especially just for us, men rather than lady products.

Rule of thumb: you should exfoliate at least once and not more than three times a week. Doing it every day could prove too harsh for your skin.

What to do

1. Wet your skin then massage a blob of exfoliating cleanser such with face scrub function into your face. For a more effective scrub, use a sponge or exfoliating gloves to massage the cleanser into your face.

2. Rinse your face with cold water and pat dry with a towel.

3. In the bath or shower, massage a body scrub into your chest and back. A loofah will help you get to those hard-to-reach places.

4. Get out of the bath or shower and pat yourself dry.

5. Then moisturise.

Moisturise

Moisturising is an inexpensive way to look younger instantly. And using one that contains SPF is one of the best things you can do to prevent further premature ageing. You can moisturise your whole body, but the bits that are exposed to the elements probably need it most often.

Clean your face

Every few weeks, put aside 10 minutes to really clean your face. A deep cleanse gets rid of all the oil and dirt that's been lurking deep in your pores since the last time you played a game of rugby or changed a wheel. It also reduces oil build-up and improves your skin's tone and texture.

What to do

1. Wash your face carefully with a cleanser. Make sure you massage it into your whole face, your neck and behind your ears, then rinse thoroughly.

2. Apply a face mask – to damp skin, avoiding the delicate eye area. Leave it on for as long as the pack tells you. Try relaxing in front of the TV while it works then rinse off and dry your face.

3. You can now apply an anti-ageing serum as it contain anti-ageing ingredients that reduce further damage and boost the skin's elasticity.

4. Finish off with a moisturiser. One of the best ways to prevent premature ageing is to use sunscreen so check your moisturiser contains SPF.

Man Fashion Skin Care: Product of the Week

Thursday, September 23, 2010

If you wake up one day and realize there is a line of wrinkles on you face, you could probably don't bother much about it. But hang on, why leave this unattended if you have the chance to take good care of your skin right now? Yes, I have tested the the Clinique Repairwear Laser Focus Wrinkle &UV Damage Corrector for a month now and the results is just amazing. Our skin is exposed to constant aggressors from sun exposure to stress to pollution which deteriorate collagen and elastin which over time produces those lines, wrinkles, uneven skin texture and can reduced skin clarity.

The Clinique Repairwear Laser Focus Wrinkle & UV Damage Corrector is an easily absorbed affair, termed ‘de-ageing serum’, formulated to work day and night to reduce the appearance of those lines and wrinkles, and repair and help prevent UV damage with results similar to an (expensive) dermatological laser treatment. Clinique advise using three drops twice a day, courtesy of the syringe-like dispenser and in 12 weeks, you should achieve 63% of the visible wrinkle reducing power of a laser – not bad considering the extortionate cost of laser treatment!

The serum address 3 main areas of concern:

VISIBLY REPAIRS UV DAMAGE

UV is still one of the leading causes of accelerated ageing. Harmful rays penetrate deeply into skin causing direct damage to cellular DNA and distortions in the skin’s regeneration process, and indirect damage from the release of free radicals. The visible results of sun damage include: breakdown of collagen, uneven skin texture and the early appearance of lines and wrinkles, the “solar scars” that are the noticeable proof of collagen loss from extended UV exposure.

A potent blend of three patented repair enzymes encapsulated in a liposome delivery system work to help visibly reverse UV damage and mend “solar scars.” This technology represents 20 years of clinical study into molecular delivery systems and aids penetration deep within the surface of the skin to dramatically revitalise the appearance of photo ageing.

  • Micrococcus Luteus (Ultrasomes V) – these liposomes work best at night to intensify the skin’s ability to visibly repair sun-inflicted damage from UVB rays.

  •  Photolyase Fermentate (Photosomes V) – absorbs visible light to promote natural cellular repair, working efficiently during daylight hours, to improve the appearance of sun damaged skin over time.

  •  OGG-1 Fermentate (Roxisomes) – derived from the mustard plant, protects cells from oxidative damage resulting from UV and intrinsic ageing.

WRINKLE REDUCING POLYPEPTIDE TECHNOLOGY

A high-level peptide complex boosts natural collagen production and helps maintain existing natural collagen with essential ingredients. Skin becomes more firm, and the appearance of lines and wrinkles is diminished. Targeted for application around the entire face and especially the delicate eye area, it works to help reverse one of the most visible signs of ageing by effectively smoothing and softening the appearance of eye creases.

  • Whey Protein – a natural, amino acid rich, polypeptide helps skin look and feel more firm and resilient while minimising the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

  • Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A) – helps to plump the skin and increase natural collagen production, resulting in firm skin and minimised appearance of lines and wrinkles.

  • Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 – this bio-peptide helps prompt natural collagen production.

FREE RADICAL PROTECTION

Additionally, a cocktail of ingredients work to protect skin by helping to fight free radicals from environmental aggressors and to prevent future damage to the skin.

  • Vitamin C and E (Aminopropyl Ascorbyl Phosphate and Tocopheryl Acetate) – provide antioxidant protection from free radicals induced by UV.

  • Ergothioneine – this naturally occurring amino acid is a powerful antioxidant, helping to protect skin from environmental aggressors. Works with Vitamin C and E, helping to provide balance to the skin and helping to re-activate each other.

  • Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Juice Extract – contains Ellagic Acid to help protect the skin and defend the skin against visible damage.

We know all the above technical terms sound complicated, but for simplicity, we always look at the end results. For the matter of fact, it's work!! That's simple. :)

Man Skin Care Tips: Problem with Wrinkles?

Sunday, April 18, 2010

What if I told you that five years from now your face could look younger than it does today? I know that it sounds ridiculous, but exciting advances in men's skincare have made it possible for you to maintain your rugged lifestyle without suffering the aging effects of exposure to the elements. This means that you can continue to enjoy golf, hunting, fishing, camping and any other outdoor activity without worrying that the sun, wind and air pollutants are going to wreak havoc on your appearance.

We will explain in more detail in next few para with more medical and technical terms involved, but don't worry, you can decode those term from simple Google search. :)

Perhaps the most important natural ingredients in mens skincare for oily skin are Vitamin B5, also known as D-Panthenol, and witch hazel. These are two of the strongest natural healing agents and they provide "protection against sunburn, soothe irritated skin and repair the damage caused by shaving.

The logical solution for skincare for men would be to buy skincare with collagen and elastin in the ingredients since our bodies stopped producing them. However that is not the case. Men's skin is tougher and need to be treated with ingredients that are specially formulated to treat their skin. Most men do not care for their skin so it becomes dry, wrinkled and unevenly toned. I know a lot of men spend hours on end in the sun without any sunscreen protection.

There is one very fine source which helps your skin produce sufficient collagen so that it retains it elasticity and wards off lines and wrinkles from occurring. If you already have lines and wrinkles it helps to remove them. It also produces natural protein which encourages new skin cell growth and is known as the most effective anti-ageing substance there is.You will also need to find a natural substance know to protect the levels of hyaluronicacid in your body, this helps your collagen and elastin keep your skin young.

Drinking water filtered though a home water filter will prevent your skin from coming into contact with the chemicals found in our water supply. Installing a shower filter is also a good idea, as our skin's pores open up while showering in warm water, and it absorbs chemicals from the water at a faster rate in this condition.

Men Skincare: Shaving Tips

Sunday, January 24, 2010

Taylor of Old Bond Street Eton College Shaving Cream JarI believe most of you think process of shaving is so simple, you hardly put any work or thought into it. Of course, all you need to do is put some/any shaving cream on your skin or just turn on your electric shaver and start shaving. Hang On!

Are you sure you got the right shaving products for your unique skin? People complain about getting cuts all the time and acne problems blaming their razors. Some of us don’t realize that right skin care regimen and products will make a huge positive change on our skin. Some men in particular just do not let go of the cheap shaving foam or even worse – soap and water. Along with applying good techniques, you should find out what skin type you have and use the right products for your skin. Choose your shaving products wisely. For instance, alcohol in a product is not good on sensitive skin. It dries it and causes irritation. Same for menthol. Yes, they feel good at first, but the result may not be as pleasant later. Avoid foam based products. Aerosol gels or foams are most popular products. It’s because they are easy to use and find. They give you a handful of lather at the press of a button. However, it’s quality not the quantity of the lather that is important.

Coochy-Original Rash-Free Shaving Cream, 16oz OriginalChemicals that are bad for your skin foam those products up. Quality shaving creams do not just help you remove hair. They prevent skin irritation, acne, and razor bumps. And they are not that expensive. Only for couple more bucks, you can get a good shaving cream that does all that and more. During these last years, skin care and shaving products have greatly developed.

There are many products on the market for any skin type, so you just need to spend a little bit of time to analyze and choose the right one for you.

Mens Skin Care: Protect Your Skin During Winter

Wednesday, December 30, 2009

During Summer time, life is more simpler, all you need is sunscreen and sun lotion. But during winter months, this is the time of year when life becomes a little less comfortable and winter related skin issues will bothering some of us.

Winter weather is harsher on your skin then summer weather for several reasons:

The air is dryer in the winter than in the summer. This causes your natural body oils to evaporate faster leaving you more vulnerable to the drying effects. I am sure you are most likely sweating less in the winter than you do in the summer. Perspiration brings more of your skin oils to the surface and helps to clean out your pores. This promotes healthier skin and tends to refresh your skin's protective coating. I am sure most of you are less active in the winter, so naturally we sweat less. :)

The cold winter air tends to constrict the skin making it tighter and somewhat less porous. This can hamper our skins natural oil production to some degree. You know you've got it when your skin begins to feel tighter and you get that annoying prickly itch. When severe, your skin can crack and the condition becomes downright painful. This can be aggravated even more if your work or play puts you outdoors in the cold for long periods. If you find yourself in this situation,

So we all like ladies should also deserve products that soothe several ailments. Here are the essentials.

    Man Skincare: Aromatic Oils

    Thursday, February 14, 2008

So far there is not many discussion on men's skincare. I think it is fair that fashion styles should also include skin care. So today I will touch on another skincare tips, aromatic oils or also known as fragrance oil.

If you think that aromatic oils are only for woman, you are wrong. Many essential oils now are specifically created for man skin care. The fact is that such oils are for everyone who wants to pamper their skin with healthful nutrients and minerals that can give glowing results.

As far as aromatic oils are concerned, skin care for men does not need to be complicated. All you need to do is by add a tiny amount on your lotion or moisturizers; this can give invigorating benefits to your skin.
As aromatic oils are very generic, it can be used on all skin types, for both men and women. Hence, it is not surprise that some of the aromatic oils labeled themselves as a man skin care product. It cleanses and moisturizing even the toughest skin type of men. Moreover, essential oil helps in smoothing the usually rough areas of the man’s body such as the knees and elbows. Around the facial areas, it helps minimize the lines as well.

    Man skincare Tip
If you have scars, even the old ones, aromatic oils is said to help in minimizing the scar as it helps in promoting the emergence of new skin cells around and within the scar. I personally have not not tried this, but some said regular application of the oil in the scar area have brought some positive results. It's up to you whether you believe or not.

    Men Skincare: Fundamental Guides

    Friday, February 1, 2008

If you are the man that serious about skincare, then you are not alone. It wasn't so long ago that it was absurd to think of men focusing any attention at all on their skin care. Of course, they made sure to keep their faces washed and once in a while they would shave without complaining, but it was unusual to find a man who was worried about aging and wrinkles. Recently, though, more and more men are starting to admit that they too care about what their skin looks like. In fact, they care about it just as much as women do. They just don't seem to have as many products to choose from.

One of the major reasons that men are starting to take better care of their skin is that men are becoming more worried about their health. Healthier skin usually leads to a healthier lifestyle. Men and Women alike want to live longer and lead healthier lives. Having healthy skin is the first step in this direction.

Recent studies have shown that a man's skin is typically more sensitive than a woman's skin. This is not so surprising considering what women will put their skin through to keep it looking good. Women also lack that "protective" layer of facial hair, so their skin has to be a little bit tougher to stand up to environmental elements. Men's facial hair protects them from sun and can help keep the skin from drying out.

One of the reasons that a man's skin is typically more sensitive than a woman's skin is that, stereotypically speaking, they tend to spend more time outdoors. They also shave their faces. Shaving can cause the facial skin to become irritated, and if you read the ingredients on men's shave gel you will see that it contains moisturizers that have been added specifically to help ease the skin irritation that comes with shaving. This is also why razors now have four and five blades. The more blades a razor has, the easier it is on the skin.

Some think that this heightened sensitivity of men's skin is what causes them to have more wrinkles and to show the signs of aging sooner than women do. One has to wonder how long it will be before there are men's lines of anti-aging wrinkle creams on the market.

Men Skincare Review: Clinique M Shave Aloe Gel

    Wednesday, January 9, 2008

I just bought this skincare product from Clinique, highly concentrated with aloe vera and oil free, Clinique's M Shave Aloe Gel, to comforts skin during and after a shave.

According to Clinique's report, this gel is to transforms into a rich lather, softens and cushions even the heaviest beards for a smooth, close shave.

Usage: Just pump out the size of a 50 cents coin, work gel between palms and transfer lather to the face to cover the bread. Shave, then rinse blade under hot, running water to avoid razor clogging. For the smoothest, longest-lasting shave, shave twice in the direction of hair growth.

After used out for first week, it's really reduce the incidence of razor burn and blemishes, and helps dampen the beard area! :). I consider this as great deal with this pricing and the quality of the product.

    Man Fashion: Unshaven Styles

    Tuesday, January 8, 2008

If you are admire the unshaven style and try to follow this man fashion style with unshaven look, then I suggest you think twice again. Alright, this is not suitable for every guy here, but it is in style if you can pull it off. The unshaven look.

I do admire the look on some guys, but I am not the biggest fan of it because if this is not maintain properly, this could turn out worst than what you expect. However, when done right, on the right face type and with proper grooming, it can lend a sense of mystery and “rough guy” look to even the nicest outfit - quite the lovely contrast.

So who can pull it off? If you are the guys with more square, or angular faces, this probably just perfect for you like George Michael. If you have a really strong jaw line, this will likely work for you. I would not suggest it for guys with overly round faces.

By the way, this is definitely not suitable if you are going for job interview or some office environments.

    The Know-How

Simple, let your hair grow, but make sure it grows evenly, and keep it neat and clean. You don’t want to look like you just rolled out of bed and were too lazy to shave. You want to look like you made a determined effort to make a style statement. Here how to go about it, just get a beard trimmer with adjustable levels - similar to when you get your hair razored, another cheaper option get a comb and put it between the (ideally electric) razor and hair and just trim slightly to keep short.

The unshaven look still means you have to shave!

Sometime in order to achieve man fashion in style, you just require some efforts (not necessary money).

Acne can be a painful and embarrassing condition for a person to be afflicted with. Often, a person who has acne cannot control its occurrence. But, by following a few acne skin care practices, acne can be controlled and even gotten rid of.

Acne is an inflammatory skin disease that affects millions of individuals. The most universal type of acne is known as “common acne”. Acne is caused when too many oils are secreted from the glands and those oils mix with dead skin cells, blocking the hair follicles. More oil secretions increase underneath the already blocked follicles (or pores), and skin bacteria begin to grow rapidly. This leads to red and irritated skin that most often appears as bumps on the skin’s surface. Any skin surface of the body is susceptible to acne, but it most commonly (and heavily) appears on the face, chest, back, and upper arm region.

Acne commonly begins to occur during puberty due to an irregular response by the body to regular levels of testosterone, a male hormone. Often, acne begins to subside or disappear altogether by the mid 20’s. However, some individuals do suffer with it throughout adulthood. And some adults do not even see the onset of acne until well into the adult years. This is known as adult onset acne.

Acne can leave scarring on the skin, as well as have a scarring effect on a person’s self-esteem, and even lead to depression. Because society can be so unforgiving about appearances, there are various medically prescribed treatments available, as well as acne skin care regimens that can be utilized in order to minimize the symptoms of acne.

Different things cause acne for different sufferers. A few of the recognized causes of acne include heredity, hormonal activity (puberty, menstruation, pregnancy), stress, certain medications, and skin irritation. All of these things have the potential to cause acne, as well as exacerbate it. There are a few myths regarding acne. For instance we’ve all heard of a mom telling her child not to eat too many greasy foods like French fries, or eat too many sweets, because it will give him or her pimples. That is simply an old wives’ tale. Diet does not cause acne, and does not affect it. Also, poor hygiene has no bearing on the occurrence of acne. Acne is not caused by dirt, and having poor hygiene habits will not aggravate the condition.

There are many treatments for acne available, both through prescription, and over the counter. There are antibiotics in the form of pills, as well as topical creams that are designed to treat the condition. Exfoliation can be used as a treatment to remove and prevent the build up of dead skin cells. And light therapy is being used more and more to treat acne. It is important to consult a dermatologist in order to determine the best course of treatment and learn the best regimen of acne skin care to carry out.

Dealing with the occurrence of acne requires knowing how to properly care for the skin. Acne skin care can help keep the problem from getting worse, and even alleviate it. It is important to gently wash the skin at least twice a day with a gentle skin cleanser. Do not scrub with a rough pad or use a rough soap. This will make the acne problem worse. And always completely rinse the skin after cleansing.

As part of an acne skin care routine, it is important to remember not to touch the afflicted skin areas. Do not try to squeeze acne. An infection could occur, compounding the problem, and scarring could result. Also, avoid the sun when possible. Wear protective clothing to avoid tanning or burning. The skin will age faster, and any fading effect of the acne is temporary and will become visible again when the burn or tan fades.
