Mens Fashion: Military Styles

Monday, September 19, 2011

What better way to blend in with nature, literally than with the military khaki camouflage. A visual decoy created for soldier trying to escape detection in forested surroundings, the testosterone-fuelled motif remains one of the fashion's best style allies and has been countless reinventions from fashion designers like Prada, Giorgio Armani and D&G.

For those who's not sure, camouflage print is surprisingly versatile and affords a pop of military coolness if worn with restraint. Wear with clean dark jeans, monochromatic black and white, beige khaki hues or even a pastel chambray blue shirt for a contemporary street-smart look.

Mens Fashion Week: Lanvin Fall 2011 Collection

Tuesday, February 8, 2011

If there were something which other fashion designers might learn from the house of Lanvin, it would be in which not anything keeps a roomful of jaded show-goers pleased as if warm espresso and nice treats. This seems easy, however just a little goes a very long way.

Easy luxury is at the heart of a Lanvin collection - a cashmere turtleneck poking out from beneath a shirt collar, or a flowing silk suit - but there was something buttoned up, almost stern, in a knee-length coat tied tightly at the waist with rope, or a suit jacket fastened just that bit too snug.

"Where there is tension, there is energy," declared Lanvin menswear designer Lucas Ossendrijver after the show, "and this collection was really about that tension. A classic loafer and then an extreme hiking boot, or luxury tailoring mixed with sportswear. We tried to find the hybrid."

Man Fashion: Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011 Final Round Up Part II

Friday, August 13, 2010

Continue from our previous post, here is our second review, Raf Simon's as well as Jean Paul Gaultier's mens fashion design in the recent Paris Fashion Week.

Raf Simons

The snazzy appeal of what we have yet to see was captured by Raf Simons on his SS 2011 Collection. A play of zippers, strings and waist bands is a refreshing take on the usual black and white canvas that is ultimately Spring and Summer in itself. Flowy pants and touch of orange, pastel green and a couple of yellowand black prints make for a sophisticated balance for the laid-back aura that the collection embodies.

Solid white and black vests and jackets are also a part of the ensemble. Skinny white shorts make for a casual street appeal that does not scream attention, yet commands simple amusement. Latex has played a relative part on some pieces, putting form and reaffirming the masculinity to the soft fabrics and asymmetrical, bold cuts.

Jean Paul Gaultier

Color, intricate prints and 3-D glasses helped Jean-Paul Gaultier with his collection this year. Once again, he has broken down the usual sights and pushed the edges of the Spring/Summer collection. Jean-Paul Gaultier did not disappoint with his futuristic prints on soft fabric and black and white base. Suits are well-defined with stripes and prints that spell ingenuity and intelligence. Blues and browns strengthen the already bold cuts, while white on black prints eases up the ensemble.

Peep-toed string sandals on jumpsuit and shorts,  beret and silver necklaces, denim and knits, and some hard-looking street-smart leather and latex affairs give the collection a bit of everything you may want for whatever adventures you may have this Summer.

Man Fashion: Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011 Round Up

Sunday, August 1, 2010

What else can all of us be excited about in this summer but the Paris Fashion Week? With the long line of models and enthusiasts, the Paris Fashion Week – Spring/Summer 2011 Collection has caught my eyes and those of many others looking for a different take on things. Let walk through our favorite men fashion designers in this Paris Fashion Week.

 Yohji Yamamoto - Y3

Another collection which has caught my attention is that of Yohji Yamamoto’s. Straight cut suits from intricate floral prints may not be so much of a breakthrough for Spring/Summer collection, but landscape and geometrical prints on suits, shorts and shoes are enough to make me take a closer look. Paired with neutral shades of gray, black and blue, they make up a statement made for the runway.

Flat-top hats and knee-length cropped soft pants remind me of Alice’s mad hatter, taking me to another place as other pieces bring me to another time. Shorts and knee-length socks, ruffled tops and buckles on shoes make the collection a wearable one, contrastingly allowing the runway into the streets.

Paris Fashion Week: Hermes Fall/Winter 2010 Collection

Thursday, January 28, 2010

Hermes stepped back from the fashion fray on Saturday by delivering a collection of timeless pieces that willfully snubbed trendiness.

The storied label's menswear offerings for fall-winter 2010-2011 made nearly no concessions to the fads that have swept other Paris catwalks, including proposing slouchy longjohns as a stand-in for pants and relieving blazers of their sleeves. Hermes' menswear designer, Veronique Nichanian, served up to-die-for suits with straight-leg pants remarkable only for their perfect cut and sweaters that retired French soccer international Lilian Thuram — a front row guest — said he was already coveting.

The rest of the pieces — which included slim overcoats worn with leather belts, velvet jackets in slate and mauve and cashmere V-neck sweaters — were timeless in a manner befitting a house that has been forging a reputation for handmade excellence since its start as a saddle maker in 1837.

Man Fashion: Is Skinny Jeans Dying Off?

Sunday, December 20, 2009

If you thought you look totally awesome in your skinny hipster jeans, well you are wrong. The trend seems to be dying off and most people these days have begun to go for that eased look, which comes with jeans that are not skinny. In the Paris Men’s Fashion Week lately, Dior Homme, Lanvin, Hermès, Paul Smith and other big names in the men’s couture did not reveal any jeans or trousers that even bordered close to being skinny or tight.

The tight jeans, kohl fudged, spike haired look seems to be dying and a relaxed 90s look seems to be back. This could be a fallout from the recession as most of us do not care about fashion anymore? as some of us are not afford as before?

The solution seems to be in well tailored but unpretentious jeans that not only look good but also make you feel like you are not being vain when people are losing jobs. Hermès designer Veronique Nichanian showed to the world what well dressed men look like even without tight and skinny jeans with washed linens and vintage shirts. Of course, fashion is very personal taste, I'm not influence your decision, but if you are on the lookout for such skinny jeans, think twice again!

Celebrity Fashion: Gabriel Aubry

Tuesday, July 7, 2009

Gabriel Aubry, if you are familiar with Halle Berry, then Gabriel should not be stranger to you.

Being Halle Berry's longtime boyfriend, and father to her daughter, Gabriel Aubry with green eyes and dirty blonde hair, he has modeled for Tommy Hilfiger, Versace, Calvin Klein and Next, hit the runway at the Louis Vuitton show in Paris last week.

According to the news, Gabriel enjoys pay rate of $30,000 a day with his profession. Anyone can confirm? and now I wonder why so many people are keen to be in modeling industry! :) Is a good industry to be in.......

Paris Fashion Week: Les Hommes S/S 2010 Collection

Sunday, June 28, 2009

Les Hommes hit the fashion week catwalk with very modern interpretations of suits and blazers, in primarily black and white. With just a little shine and bronze thrown in for good measure.

Les HommesThe Belgian designers developed form-fitting, cuffed shorts and jackets with elongated lapels. Monochromatic is looking really good for S/S 2010, especially if you pare things down to essential, impeccably tailored items.
